IDEO_book

Running a creative firm is a pretty elusive task, since there is no single right answer to stir up persona, motivation, innovation as well as revenue and profit.
Among many great books from IDEO, one of the most successful international design firm, this was particularly filled with great insights and I enjoyed it very much.

クリエイティブな組織を作るのは、クリエイティブな作品を作る以上に難しく、その方法論を体系的にココまでおし進めているIDEOはやはりスゴイ。これに限らず、IDEOの出したどの本も最高の教科書です。

#002: Massive Change

Bruce Mau

I just finished "MASSIVE CHANGE" by Bruce Mau (who also co-authered S-M-L-XL with Rem Koolhaas) and the Institute Without Boundaries.

As the back-cover says, this 240-page book is not about the world of design, but rather, it is about the design of the world: design in its broadest sense, from products to systems, economy, politics, our body and our perception on life.
Each chapter starts with a bold statement of determination to shape our future by our own hands..... (notice chapter 8 ?)

1: We will create urban shelter for the entire population.
2: We will enable sustainable mobility.
3: We will bring energy to the entire world.
4: We will build a global mind.
5: We will make visible as yet invisible.
6: We will seamlessly integrate all supply and demand around the world.
7: We will build intelligence into materials and liberate form from matter.
8: Will we shift from the service of war to the service of life?
9: We will eliminate the need for raw material and banish all waste
10: We will design evolution.
11: We will eradicate poverty.

Yes, if we have entered an era where we can somewhat play GOD, we must, must, must play a good one.

Exchanging_books

実に多種多様な話題で盛り上がり、本を交換して、飲んで、食べて、ふと気が付いたらもう１２時でした。
仕事もバックグラウンドも異なる５人が、共通の何かでつながっている。
そんなぜいたくな、あっという間の４時間半。

世界とって一番大切なものはと聞かれたら、迷わず「多様性」だと答えます。
自分にとって一番大切なものはと聞かれたら、それは「好奇心」だと断言できます。

そしてこの会は、その両方が見事に備わっています。
nobiさん、上田さん、zugaさん、asakartさん、みんなありがとう。

※会の詳細については、僕の頼りない記憶ではとても再現できません。メンバーの一人、nobiさんがちゃんと書いてくれてますので、そっちを参照ということで手を抜くことにします。
